About us
First and foremost, let me send out a huge Thank You to all my two legged customers. Without you, I would not be able to come everyday to do a job I love so very much. Your faith and trust in me does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
My love for all animals started as a very young child. I was the one bringing sick kittens, birds or mice into the house. I stayed by their side until they healed or passed on.
That love for animals has never faded. My house is made up of two stray cats (Pumpkin and Kitty Kitty), a dog Brooke (her now "forever" home is her 6th home), our old girl Chloe came to us when her parents couldn't keep her and Blue, a present to my son when he turned 2.
Our house has always contained one of God's creatures....dogs, cats, birds, fish, frogs, bugs, or geckos. My son shares my passion and has contributed some on that list.
The grooming business started in 1998 and began as a hobby. I had taken my springer to Fond du Lac for grooming and thought the price was ridiculous. I decided to do the grooming myself and soon friends and family were letting me experiment with their pets. I was surprised when customers started calling me and even more surprised when they came back again. I decided I could do a reasonably good job for a reasonable price.
I always say I am blessed with my very understanding and patient customers. They put up with me through my vacations, my surgeries, my available hours due to two jobs, my three location moves and the birth and raising of my son. Some of you have been with me through all of this and I truly am blessed that you have stayed with me. I am so lucky to have been able to spend everyday with my son and that means more to me than I could ever say.
The boarding business started in my home with a small poodle named Jake. There was no place nearby to board and I offered to do this service for one of my loyal customers. Soon after, my house started having a guest stay almost every weekend. And on a July 4th weekend with twelve extra in my home, I decided we had to expand. My father was looking for a extra project he could continue with after retirement and we started researching a kennel.
We visited a few kennels and drew up plans to build, taking our time because we wanted it done the right way the first time. Safety for the pets was our number one concern, followed by cleanliness and comfort. We broke ground in the fall of 2004 and opened the doors in February 2005. Some changes have been made since then. Additions such as the outside roofs and extra runs have been added.
Our kennel is a family owned and operated business consisting of my husband Tony and I, and my parents Larry and Jolene Vander Woude. We have 21 kennels with outside access, 10 inside kennels, 4 suites with beds and TVs and an extra area for cats. The building is air conditioned in the summer and we have heated floors in the winter. We take pride in keeping our kennels clean and sanitized and our guests happy and healthy.
If you have any questions about our services, please do not hesitate to call. We are more than happy to help. Our kennels are always open for you to come see. Thanks again to our customers for their support and for their referrals. Word of mouth is our greatest advertising. We look forward to meeting new customers both two legged and four legged.
Sincerely, the staff of Doggone Groomers & Boarding,
Brenda & Tony Edmunds
